Flames’ Dustin Wolf named NHL’s rookie of the month for January

Calgary Flames goaltender Dustin Wolf earned the NHL’s rookie of the month honour for January.

Wolf posted a 7-3-0 record, 2.32 goals-against average and .922 save percentage over 10 games during the month.

He became the first Flames rookie netminder to record at least seven wins in a season since Mike Vernon in 1986.

The 23-year-old from Gilroy, Calif., leads all rookie goaltenders this season in games played (29) and saves (802).

Wolf beat out Ottawa Senators goaltender Leevi Meriläinen (5-2-1, 2.02 GAA, .928 save percentage), Montreal Canadiens goaltender Jakub Dobes (4-1-1, 2.43 GAA, .912 save percentage), Canadiens defenceman Lane Hutson (one goal, 12 assists), and Detroit Red Wings centre Marco Kasper (seven goals, five assists).

Philadelphia Flyers right wing Matvei Michkov (October), San Jose Sharks centre Macklin Celebrini (November) and Hutson (December) have also earned the honour this season.
